About PANWA
* We cover 15 geographical areas, Buriton, East Meon, Froxfield, Hill Brow, Liss, Liss Forest, Petersfield, Privett, Ramsdean, the Ramshill development, Sheet, Steep, Steep Marsh, Stroud and Weston.
* We have 219 co-ordinators and deputies.
* In starting and running a Watch our co-ordinators are doing your local community a huge service and really learning about the issues on the ground.
* Our Association allows its co-ordinators to share best practice and there is evidence that shows that when a number of Neighbourhood Watches are in place together, crime is reduced.
* Our lamp post signs and window stickers serve the twin purpose of deterrence thieves as well as advertising our presence. |

Chairman's Report February 2010
This has been my fourth year as Chair of the Association and I believe that we have continued to make progress. We have maintained our close ties with our local Hampshire Constabulary; we meet regularly with our local police and also with our Chief Inspector. We play an active part in the Hampshire Neighbourhood Watch Association where I am currently the Vice Chair. I stood down from the post of regional representative for the South East on the National Group earlier this year to concentrate on things closer to home. Our liaison with other organisations such as trading standards helps us to provide you with up to the minute information and crime prevention advice. As a co-ordinator you have access to PANWA and can make your voice and wishes known, now even up to Home Office level. This is what we have been trying to put in place over the last few years, a national network where we as Neighbourhood Watch work from the ground upwards, not the other way around.
PANWA continue to cover 15 geographical areas, Buriton, East Meon, Froxfield, Hill Brow, Liss, Liss Forest, Petersfield, Privett, Ramsdean, the Ramshill development, Sheet, Steep, Steep Marsh, Stroud and Weston. We have gone from 216 co-ordinators and deputies last year to 219 this year. Our lamp post signs and window stickers serve the twin purpose of deterrence thieves as well as advertising our presence
It has been a sad year for me personally my thanks go to the others on the committee, who have been supportive, my apologies for the missing newsletters. Only a Summer and Autumn one came your way this year. But be reassured unless there are unforeseen circumstances we expect to produce the full quota next year We are also sad to loose Brian Hendy from our team this year as he has been the instigator of the regular email updates that go out weekly to you all. The Internet is playing an ever more important part in crime information and prevention. We hope as many of you as possible will go online so that we can reach you quickly when there is urgent information to pass on. My thanks go to Geoff Eyre and John Collins for carrying on this task. We welcome Keith Hopper as our new minute’s secretary and are still in the change over process as Brian covered so much of the communications now it is down to John Collins, Barry Kempster and Myself.
As always I need to thank the police station volunteers for carrying on in the face of unexpected police station closures. Their dedication has maintained our lines of communication. Trevor Newbury, Lyn Ashcroft, Liz Baker, Barry Kempster, Helen Mountain, John Collins, Geoff Eyre, Keith Hopper, Ron Wing. We now have detailed maps showing which roads are Neighbourhood watch and which are not thanks to Barry Kempster. Our finances are looking good due to the hard work of our treasurer Judy Kempster. We are always looking for keen members who feel they have something to offer and would like to join our team.
Our thanks to Petersfield Town Council for their financial support, also the Woodbury Avenue Residents Association, Froxfield, Privett, Liss Stroud and Steep Parish Councils for their and all the others who have given donations to help cover our small costs. We now reach more than 4,000 households which is a lot of newsletters to put through letterboxes so please accept my thanks for your efforts in delivering these. I am pleased to see so many PLEASE DO NOT COLD CALL front door stickers everywhere I go. Is your neighbourhood watch sticker on show as well?
We still have the lowest crime rate anywhere in the Hampshire area and I would like to think that our efforts contribute to these low figures.. Finally my thanks to you all the loyal co-ordinators and deputies who work together to keep your neighbours informed, reduce crime and the fear of crime, and help to strengthen and develop our local communities.
As we fill the post of Minutes and Correspondence Secretary. There is now a vacancy for database and general secretary on our management committee. Is there anyone out there with computer skills who knows about websites, databases, mail shot and publishing? Please phone me Jane on 261105 to discuss the position, if you are interested. - Preferably before the AGM. This will be held at Herne Farm Leisure Centre on Saturday 6th March starting promptly at 2pm. My thanks go to Barry Chalmer-Stevens and his wife who provide the refreshments. They have done this every year since we started and will be sadky missed when they move away in the spring Do please try and come, it is a good time to meet and share. Help me and my committee members to make 2009 -2010 a good year, with less crime and many more friendships formed.
Best wishes, Jane Hoolahan, PANWA Chairman
