WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP THE POLICE

1. When a crime is happening ring the police on 999
This applies to - assault, burglary, theft, criminal damage or violence, property being damaged or people being hurt. This is for emergency use only.

2. If someone is acting suspiciously ring the police on 101
This applies to - graffiti, vandalism, vehicle crime, noisy neighbours, or information after an event.

3. For routine, non-urgent calls ring the local police on 0845 045 45 45
This number connects to a switchboard, who will forward your call to the correct department, either the Force Enquiry Centre or the Control Room. Give details clearly.

Non-urgent reports could be to draw attention to suspicious callers; to people or vehicles which just do not look "right" in your local scene; to something you remember later which may assist Police enquiries about a recent local crime.

DETAILS THE POLICE NEED

  • Who? Describe individuals and any vehicles involved.
  • What? Explain what you have seen.
  • Where? Give exact location of criminal activity
  • When? To be effective it must be now.

Do not attempt to tackle the suspects yourself. Be discreet. Make a note of what you have reported, with particular attention to date and time.

Don't delay. Tell your Co-ordinator later. When you speak to the Police always mention your Neighbourhood Watch involvement. Ask for an RMS number when informing of an incident.
